Waco, Texas
On March 31, 2019 by adminThis was another easy day trip from Dallas! The 1.5 hour drive was rather easy, compared to Dallas driving 🙂 and well worth it!
*Pro tip: if you’re going to hop around Texas as much as we did – stay outside of the center city. We stayed in Northwest Dallas near the airport, and it not only convenient, but exponentially cheaper. (We book all of our trips at Booking.com – you can search this exact location with the Booking.com search tool at the bottom of this page!)
Waco, Texas – home of the Chip and Jo empire. No really, Waco feels like a Gaines version of Disney. We were able to hit a few of their spots, as well as some other local gems!
I’d likely recommend starting with Magnolia Table, assuming you’ll have to wait the longest there. Even on a Tuesday morning at 8am, we had to wait an hour for breakfast. But we’d have waited that hour over and over again, after how good the food was. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a better breakfast in my life. Two words: strawberry butter, and biscuits. The meals are larger than I expected, super affordable and everything was incredible. We may have gotten a side of biscuits for the ride home – they were THAT good 🙂
After that, head up the road to Silos Baking Co. & the rest of the Magnolia grounds. It was my birthday the day we went, so we overindulged on cupcake flavors – easy excuse 🙂 The strawberry cupcake is likely something I will dream about for birthdays to come. All were very good, but that one rocked our world. We toured the rest of the grounds, and took in the incredible esthetics.
You could spend hours here hanging out, shopping, and getting grub from local vendors – which is one thing I was pleasantly surprised by. They very well could have made this entire place about them, but the fact that they also support local vendors by having their food trucks on the grounds says a lot to me about them!
After getting a fill of all things Chip and Jo – we were off to find some Waco murals I had see on Instagram. And the runner in me HAD to stop into Waco Running Co. (ps they have a fairly large race here every year, if you’re looking to make an excuse for the trip!).
Last stop: Baylor U for some quick brews – as in Kombucha 🙂 We sat back at Common Grounds soaking up the perfect hangs and local brewed bucha before making the trek back to Dallas! Waco was the perfect day trip, which highly exceeded our expectations.
