Dallas, Texas
On March 29, 2019 by adminSo we have to admit – Texas was never on the big travel bucket list. But when a chance to travel comes knocking, you open the door! Texas pleasantly surprised us – the warm weather, truly kind people, amazing food (more on Dallas eats here) and access to all sorts of culture and experiences within a couple hours! You can read more on Ft. Worth here and Waco here!
*Pro tip: if you’re going to hop around Texas as much as we did – stay outside of the center city. We stayed in Northwest Dallas near the airport, and it not only convenient, but exponentially cheaper. (We book all of our trips at Booking.com – you can search this exact location with the Booking.com search tool at the bottom of this page!)
Places to stop:
Find a Bird Scooter (you’ll need the app dowloaded and a valid license) and scoot around town. Don’t get me wrong – we love walking around cities, but we’ve done 14 mile days in some and it drains you straight from the soul. The scooters are a serious game changer – especially when you’re on a time crunch, and it’s cheaper than Uber-ing around a big city that is spread out!
We started with scooting to Klyde Warren Park – the cutest little spot with food trucks, yard game rentals, a dog park, and a whole section of jungle gyms and water spouts for kids. We walked through, grabbed a bite (and of course ice cream). There’s also a bar right in the middle and it’s the perfect activity for a sunny day!
Hop back on your scooters and head further downtown for a quick history lesson. JFK was shot in the center of Dealey Plaza – it’s marked with a large X. Fun fact: there are actually two white X’s in the road – one where he was aimed for, and missed, and one where the second shot killed him. While you’re there, you’re surrounded by 3 different history museums to pop into if you’re a history buff!
Continue a couple miles down the road to Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge for the best view of the city, iconic Dallas bridge – and the Texas flag, to really tie together your perfect ‘gram 🙂
If you’re still looking for more to scoot to (my husband could literally scoot around a city all day, if I let him) – this is right near a spot called Trinity Groves with various restaurants, bars and cafes.
Have more than a day to explore? Check out the Dallas Aquarium, Dallas Zoo, a game at the American Airlines Center, catch rays rooftop at the Omni Hotel after getting a massage, or eat as many tacos as you can in a day!
